The European Union said on Sunday 12 February that it was saddened by the death of 27-year-old Palestinian Mithqal Rayyan - who was shot dead by settlers the previous day - a few days after expressing its dismay at the 10 February terrorist ram attack on a bus stop in East Jerusalem that killed a six-year-old child and a young man and injured others.
On Sunday, the EU delegation to the Palestinians strongly condemned “settler violence” and expressed concern about the increasing number of attacks by settlers after the death of Mr Rayyan in the village of Qarawat Bani Hassan. According to the delegation, “this kind of senseless violence will only aggravate an already tense situation and must stop”. “A swift and transparent investigation is needed and the perpetrators must be brought to justice”, it warned.
On Friday, the spokesperson of the European External Action Service had “strongly and unequivocally condemned [...] terrorism in all its forms”, after the attack on the bus stop in a Jewish settlement area. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
