13/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – Twitter is lagging behind in its compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA) (see EUROPE 13112/9). The American company bought by billionaire Elon Musk (see EUROPE 13092/5) is the only one of the 12 major digital platforms - including Google, Meta, Microsoft and TikTok - that has not submitted to the European Commission the full version of its progress report on compliance with the EU’s strengthened code of practice on disinformation, provided for under the DSA. The other companies have each filed the document over the past six months, which records, among other things, political advertisements aired, advertising revenues generated or attempts to manipulate or spread false information. The Twitter report is lacking in several areas, including collaboration with the European Commission’s fact-checking teams. (TM)
