30/01/23 (Agence Europe) – EU High Representative Josep Borrell on 28 January welcomed the publication the previous day of the 3rd report of the Investigation and Identification Team to the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons(OPCW), which concludes that there are “reasonable grounds” to believe that on 7 April 2018 in Douma, the Syrian Arab Air Force used chlorine in a military attack, killing 43 people. “The EU strongly condemns the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian army”, he stressed. Borrell said the report “is an important contribution to efforts to end impunity for the use of chemical weapons”. He warned that those identified as responsible for these “reprehensible” acts would be held accountable, adding that the use of chemical weapons could amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
