30/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) proposed, on Monday 30 January, a guiding protocol for a common methodology to assess the effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine. This protocol uses health data registers established in the participating EU Member States/European Economic Area. It was developed after a pilot study was conducted. The protocol was originally commissioned by ECDC under the Vaccine Effectiveness, Burden and Impact Studies (VEBIS) contract on Covid 19 and influenza to guide the implementation of ECDC funded studies. However, ECDC encourages sponsors of studies in countries not currently planning to participate in ECDC-funded studies to use this protocol, to improve the comparability of results.
