30/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 30 January, the chairs of parliamentary foreign affairs committees from 16 EU Member States and Norway, the UK, Ukraine and the European Parliament co-signed a declaration on the prosecution of war crimes and the crime of aggression in Ukraine. They have called for the establishment of “a dedicated international tribunal”, in addition to the International Criminal Court (ICC), in order to bring to justice those responsible for the crime of aggression in Ukraine. EU Member States have recently been supporting the creation of a separate tribunal to try the most senior Russian officials and not just the perpetrators of war crimes (soldiers, etc.) (see EUROPE 13105/2), but they have not yet decided on the nature of this tribunal (see EUROPE 13109/1). On the other hand, the signatories of the declaration signed on 30 January took a stand for a dedicated international tribunal. Read the statement: https://aeur.eu/f/54W (LM)
