Urban mobility, car rental companies concerned about not being included in discussions to reduce emissions in cities

16/01/2023 (Agence Europe)The major car rental groups, Avis, Hertz and Europcar, sent a letter on Thursday 12 January to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Transport expressing their concern that they will not be taking part in the discussions of the Expert Group on Urban Mobility (EGUM). This group, which brings together various major players in the transport sector, is responsible for leading discussions on how to reduce emissions in European cities. “Excluding the views of our sector from discussions on the future of urban mobility is a missed opportunity for the Commission”, the signatories say, stressing that their sector “represents one of the earliest forms of mobility as a service” and “expects to play an important role in the shift from a ‘vehicle ownership’ model to a ‘vehicle usage’ model, helping to reduce urban congestion and pollution”.
