16/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 13 January, the European Commission adopted the 2022 edition of the EU Blue Bioeconomy report, which focuses on algae. This algae sector is considered to be the most notable of the EU’s blue bioeconomy. The report provides an overview of the latest developments in micro- and macro-algae cultivation systems, both in the EU and worldwide. It focuses on sargassum (a macro-alga) and shows how algae can capture carbon and transform regional economies. The report was prepared by the European Market Observatory for Fisheries and Aquaculture. In November 2022, the Commission adopted the communication ‘Towards a Strong and Sustainable EU Algae Sector’ (see EUROPE 13063/21). Link to the report: https://aeur.eu/f/4w8 (LC)
