European Disability Forum sceptical of priorities of Swedish Presidency of EU Council

16/01/2023 (Agence Europe)The European Disability Forum (EDF) is concerned about the prospects given to people with disabilities during the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council. In particular, the association criticised Stockholm for not mentioning the launch of AccessibleEU (see EUROPE 13035/7) or the actions foreseen in the European Commission’s employment package for people with disabilities (see EUROPE 13066/2) in its programme (see EUROPE 13093/8).However, more significant than the actions proposed are the results achieved. We will have to wait for the presidency to be in place before we can really understand whether it is truly inclusive or not”, EDF adds. Other aspects highlighted by Sweden, such as accessible infrastructure and transport or legislation promoting greater equality of treatment (see EUROPE 13032/16, 13079/21), do indeed affect people with disabilities as well, the association says.
