10/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – No less than eight MEPs from the S&D group in the European Parliament - Luxembourger Marc Angel, French Raphaël Glucksmann, Finnish Miapetra Kumpula-Natri, Cypriot Costas Mavrides, Romanian Victor Negrescu, Slovenian Matjaž Nemec, Lithuanian Juozas Olekas and Bulgarian Elena Yoncheva - have officially announced their candidacy for the European Parliament vice-presidency to replace Greek Socialist Eva Kaili, whose term was cut short due to her involvement in the alleged corruption scandal at the European institution (see EUROPE 13083/1). The election will take place on Wednesday 11 January, after a presentation of each of the candidates, who will have a maximum of three rounds of voting. Once the person has been chosen by the 144 elected members of the S&D group, it will be up to the Parliamentary plenary session to ratify the decision on Tuesday 17 January. (MB)
