EU lectures Iranian ambassador Hossein Dehghani

10/01/2023 (Agence Europe)The European External Action Service (EEAS) explained in a press release that, as announced by EUROPE, Secretary-General of the EEAS Stefano Sannino had summoned, on behalf of the EU’s High Representative, Iran’s ambassador to the EU Hossein Dehghani on Monday, 9 January, in order “to reiterate the European Union’s strong appalment” at the 7 January execution of Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini, who had been arrested and sentenced to death in the context of the ongoing protests in Iran. Mr Sannino reiterated the EU’s position on death sentences linked to protests (see EUROPE 13095/16). He stressed that human rights issues are at the heart of the EU’s internal and external relations and that the EU and its Member States remain united in their response to Iran’s actions. (CG)
