10/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 10 January, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU would impose additional sanctions on Belarus and Iran for their participation in the war against Ukraine. “We will keep the pressure on the Kremlin for as long as it takes with a biting sanctions regime. We will extend these sanctions to those who militarily support Russia’s war, such as Belarus or Iran. And we will be coming forward with new sanctions against Belarus, answering Belarus’s role in this Russian war in Ukraine”, she told the media. The previous day, Swedish ambassador Lars Danielsson, whose country has taken over the presidency of the Council of the EU, had specified that the discussion among the EU27 on a new sanctions package was not yet mature.
