21/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Member States’ ambassadors to the European Union (Coreper) have given the green light for the formal adoption of agreements with the European Parliament on the revision of two EU Regulations as part of the ‘Fit for 55 package’ of climate legislation. The first concerns the distribution of the climate effort among Member States in sectors not covered by the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) (Effort Sharing Regulation, or ESR). The second is the Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry Regulation (LULUCF). These agreements, reached on 8 and 11 November respectively (see EUROPE 13060/6, 13062/15), now need to be approved by Parliament and then at ministerial level before the revised Regulations enter into force.
