21/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – In response to an invitation from the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria, the EU will observe the Nigerian general elections scheduled for 25 February and 11 March 2023. MEP Barry Andrews (Renew Europe, Irish) will lead the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM). He was appointed as Chief Observer by the High Representative of the European Union, Josep Borrell. The core mission team consists of 11 electoral experts who will arrive in Abuja in the first half of January. By the end of January, 40 long-term observers will be deployed throughout the country to monitor the election campaign. Short-term observers from the EU diplomatic community, as well as from Canada, Norway and Switzerland, will assist on election day. The EU EOM will remain in the country until the end of the electoral process. (AN)
