21/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Union is mobilising €4 million in emergency humanitarian aid to help cover the basic needs of vulnerable people in Iraq, both internally displaced people and refugees living in makeshift shelters outside refugee camps. The funding, announced by the European Commission on Wednesday 21 December, will support up to 4,000 vulnerable displaced families with monthly cash assistance while they go through the process of obtaining identity and civil status documents. The cash assistance will also benefit up to 1,000 families who have a chronically ill family member and are no longer able to meet their essential needs - primarily food. Since 2014, the EU has allocated €530.5 million in humanitarian aid to Iraq. (AN)
