On Monday 28 November the European Commission adopted the Dutch and Maltese programmes implementing the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) covering the period 2021-2027.
The total financial allocation for the Dutch 2021-2027 programme is €139.9 million, of which €97.9 million comes from the EU budget. The Netherlands has chosen to support a limited number of types of activities.
83% of the programme’s allocation will be spent on sustainable fisheries and conservation of aquatic biological resources, 8% will be invested in sustainable aquaculture and processing and marketing, and 3% will be invested in strengthening international ocean governance, “all contributing to the EU’s environmental and climate objectives”, according to the Commission.
Malta. The total financial envelope for the Maltese 2021-2027 programme amounts to €31.2 million, with an EU contribution of €21.8 million. The programme will devote 79.4% of its budget to supporting sustainable fisheries and the protection and restoration of marine environments and will invest 14.6% in sustainable aquaculture and marketing. The programme also meets the EU’s environmental and climate objectives (see EUROPE 13070/7).
