28/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 28 November, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) fined the Meta Group - which includes Facebook - €265 million following the data leak of more than 530 million users in 2019. The investigation, conducted on behalf of the EU, was initiated in April 2021. The DPC was tasked with determining whether the US Group had breached the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the relevant Irish legislation. In its verdict, the DPC found that two articles of the GDPR had been breached and said it had attached an order to the fine requiring Meta to “ bring its data processing into compliance by taking a series of specified remedial actions within a given timeframe”.
