The Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper II) approved, on Friday 25 November, the compromise on the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, which EUROPE has detailed (see EUROPE 13070/4).
The experts in the working group succeeded in convincing the ambassadors with their new definition of “chain of activities”. This term and its definition in the text does include the activities of a company’s upstream and downstream partners, but excludes the provision to end consumers.
The inclusion of the financial sectors, which had been a problem in the discussions, was also agreed: they remain in the scope, but the particularities of the sector are taken into account.
The general approach of the text agreed in Coreper is expected to be adopted by industry ministers on 1 December.
MEP Lara Wolters (S&D, Dutch) circulated a first version of her report in November (see EUROPE 13060/2) and the vote on the text in the Committee on Legal Affairs is not expected before March 2023. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
