United Kingdom officially invited to join permanent structured cooperation project on military mobility

15/11/2022 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday 15 November, the Council of the EU adopted a decision confirming that the participation of the United Kingdom in the permanent structured cooperation project on military mobility meets the general conditions set out in decision (CFSP) 2020/1639 of November 2020, following London’s request to participate in this project (see EUROPE 13051/34). This decision authorises the Netherlands, the project coordinator, to formally invite the UK to join the project, and recognises the substantial added value that the UK could bring to it. The United States, Canada and Norway, also third country members of NATO, have already participated in this project since 2021. “Ensuring rapid movement and secure transport of armed forces is essential to improve the EU and NATO’s ability to respond to crises”, said the High Representative of the Union, Josep Borrell.
