15/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – On European Equal Pay Day on Tuesday 15 November, European Commission Vice-President Věra Jourová and Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli called on the European Parliament and the Council of the EU to adopt the proposed directive on equal pay “without undue delay”. The European Parliament and the Council of the EU are currently negotiating but they are struggling to agree on its scope (see EUROPE 13059/28). For an equivalent job, women still earn less than men, with an average EU pay gap of 13%, a reduction of only 2.8% over 10 years. “Transparency contributes towards ending gender bias in pay from the outset and empowers workers to enforce their right to equal pay for the same work or work of equal value”, the Commissioners insisted.
