Latvia singled out for non-transposition of directive limiting exposure to ionising radiation

29/09/2022 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 29 September the European Commission decided to refer Latvia to the Court of Justice of the European Union for failing to fully transpose the revised directive (2013/59) limiting exposure to ionising radiation into national law (see EUROPE 10979/24). Member States were required to transpose the directive by February 2018. In the course of the infringement procedure, which started in July 2020, the Latvian authorities gave notification of a number of provisions of the directive. However, they have not yet transposed the obligation to establish management strategies for contaminated areas or adopted an action plan addressing the long-term risks of radon exposure, as required by the directive.
