On Monday 26 September, EU agriculture and fisheries ministers adopted a decision that will allow the European Commission to negotiate “digital trade principles” with South Korea, Japan and Singapore.
In February, the European Commission informed the EU Council of its intention to start discussions with these three countries and to conclude digital partnerships. Then, in July, it told Member States that it wanted to develop “digital trade principles” as part of these partnerships. The Commission plans to conclude these discussions in 2022.
Furthermore, Member States also gave the green light to negotiations over the transfer of data between Japan and the EU. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
