26/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – The doubling of EU funding for global biodiversity, confirmed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the United Nations General Assembly in New York (UNGA-77) (see EUROPE 13026/10), will result in an investment of €7 billion from the EU budget for 2021-2027, the European Commission said on Saturday 24 September. This figure was announced by Ms von der Leyen ahead of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15, Montreal, 7-19 December). The Commission is also expected to sign its first forest partnerships this year with five countries - Uganda, Zambia, Congo, Mongolia and Guyana - to help these partner countries sustainably manage, protect and restore their forests, according to the institution.
