European Agency for Asylum and its director, Nina Gregori, face complaint of maladministration and harassment

The European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) is once again rocked by a case of maladministration and suspected harassment against its executive director, Nina Gregori, among others, as the Financial Times revealed on 20 September.

In a complaint to OLAF and the Commission last week, EUAA employees called for an investigation into the Agency’s top management, accusing it of nepotism, misleading reports and mishandling of harassment complaints”, the newspaper reports.

The complaint targets Ms Gregori, who arrived in 2019 after the departure of José Carreira, who had also been the subject of harassment accusations.

Nina Gregori is said to have put in place “a complex system of legal structures and controls that give the appearance of compliance and regularity, but in reality hide and cover up all the Agency’s irregularities”.

These practices include “appointments that contravene human resources rules, dubious career promotions and keeping employees in certain positions longer than the duration stipulated in their temporary contracts”.

We have received a copy of the letter of complaint addressed to the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) concerning the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA). The OLAF will analyse all information received in accordance with standard procedures and will determine, on this basis, any appropriate follow-up”, the Commission reacted.
