On Tuesday 20 September, the European Commission published on its 40th annual report on the EU’s trade defence instruments. This document sets out the EU’s actions in 2021 in relation to anti-dumping, safeguarding and the wider trade defence tools.
The EU had 109 anti-dumping measures, 19 anti-subsidy measures and three safeguarding measures at the end of 2021. This represents 13 more measures than in 2020. According to the Commission’s report, these measures have protected over 462,000 direct jobs. The first sectors concerned are : - aluminium; - steel; - ceramics; - green technologies.
The Commission's working document, which accompanies the report, also shows that in 2021, China was the country most targeted by: - investigations initiated for dumping practices; - provisional and definitive anti-dumping measures.
