02/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – Following the announcement of the cancellation of Europride by the Serbian authorities, the spokesperson of the European External Action Service encouraged them, on Thursday 1 September, to continue their contact with the organisers in order to find a solution to host the event peacefully and safely. “We look forward to a final positive decision”, he warned, stressing that the EU attaches great importance to Europride taking place in peaceful circumstances and with respect for the safety of participants. According to the spokesperson, the EU expects its closest partners to commit to the protection and promotion of human rights, including respect for the rights of LGBTIQ+ people. The day before, around 100 MEPs denounced the cancellation of Europride and called on the authorities to reverse their decision (see EUROPE 13011/7). (CG)
