02/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – Registration for the annual European competition for young translators opened on Friday, 2 September. Secondary schools in all EU Member States can now register their students online, and this year they will have to translate texts on the theme of European youth. Participants will be able to choose one of the 552 possible language combinations from the 24 official languages of the Member States. Registration will be open until 20 October. Some 705 schools, selected at random, with their numbers corresponding to the number of seats each country has in the European Parliament, will be asked to nominate up to five students. The tests will then be held online on 24 November, before the winners are announced in February 2023. “With this competition, we want to encourage young people to pursue a career in translation and promote language learning”, commented Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn.
