02/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – The voluntary partnership agreement between the EU and Honduras on timber entered into force on Thursday 1 September. The two partners concluded this agreement in February 2021. It aims to guarantee the legality of timber cut in Honduras. In particular, it will allow the country to issue FLEGT (Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade) authorisations that certify that timber has been harvested, processed and exported in accordance with the country’s laws. In November 2021, Honduras elected Xiomara Castro of the Liberal Party as its first female president. The EU had been invited for an election observation mission (see EUROPE 12797/29).
