Euro area inflation expected to reach 9.1% in August

31/08/2022 (Agence Europe)Annual inflation in the euro area is expected to reach 9.1% in August, up from 8.9% in July, according to a flash estimate published by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) on Wednesday 31 August. Price increases are highest in Estonia (25.2%), Lithuania (21.1%), Latvia (20.8%) and lowest in France (6.5%), Malta (7.1%) and Finland (7.6%). Inflation was 8.8% in Germany, 9.0% in Italy and 10.3% in Spain. Looking at the main components of inflation, energy is expected to have the highest rate (38.3%, compared to 39.6% in July), followed by food, alcohol & tobacco (10.6%, compared to 9.8% in July), industrial goods excluding energy (5.0%, compared to 4.5% in July) and services (3.8%, compared to 3.7% in July). (MB)
