31/08/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Union takes note of the announcement of a possible constitutional referendum in the Central African Republic, the European External Action Service spokesperson said on Wednesday 31 August. “Any change to the constitution is a matter of national sovereignty. However, it is essential that such a process respects the mandates and independence of the national institutions involved, with full transparency”, the press release said. It went on to say, “Furthermore, an inclusive, credible and peaceful popular consultation must be based on scrupulous respect for the freedoms of expression, assembly and the media. The referendum is to revise the Constitution of 30 March 2016. (AN)
