30/08/2022 (Agence Europe) – MEP Stéphane Bijoux (Renew Europe, French) is now the third vice-chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Development. The parliamentary committee proceeded to appoint him on Tuesday, 30 August, after a vote by acclamation. Stéphane Bijoux succeeds [former] MEP Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, who left the European Parliament in May to join the French government. “Originally from Réunion, [this MEP] is particularly sensitive to sustainable development issues and [...] the EU’s outermost dimension”, his colleague and compatriot Catherine Chabaud had pointed out about the candidate—the only one in the running—proposed by the Renew Europe group. For his part, Mr Bijoux spoke of his “desire to develop solutions to global problems together, [...] notably [solutions to] climate disruption as well as [...] major social and societal challenges”.
