26/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – In response to a request for assistance from the Ukrainian authorities to the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, Slovenia has provided Kyiv with metal detection and other demining equipment, the European Commission announced on Monday 25 July. Stressing that “Ukraine has become one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world”, EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič welcomed this gesture of “EU solidarity” and thanked Slovenia “for helping Ukraine destroy these deadly remnants of war”. As a reminder, Turkey has already offered to support with mine clearance in the Black Sea to facilitate the implementation of the 22 July agreement on Ukrainian grain exports via secure maritime corridors.
