26/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission confirmed on Tuesday 26 July that the Czech Republic had requested assistance under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and already received help to fight the fire in the Bohemian Switzerland National Park, bordering Germany. “The Czech Republic activated the Civil Protection Mechanism today and a helicopter has already been made available”, said a Commission spokeswoman, adding that the Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) is in contact with all participating countries to identify the availability to provide the requested assistance. The Czech authorities have requested Canadair and helicopters to deal with the fire that broke out last weekend. “The situation around the fire is critical”, Czech Environment Minister Anna Hubáčková said on her Twitter account on Monday.
