28/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) announced on Tuesday, 28 June, that electricity trade between Ukraine and the European Union would begin on 30 June. Welcoming the news, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson declared, “Gradually increasing electricity trade is particularly important in the context of Russia’s continuing aggression against Ukraine”. She stressed that this will benefit not only Ukraine, by enabling it to collect revenues to support its own power system, but also the EU, by making additional electricity resources available at an affordable price. This development follows the emergency synchronisation of the Ukrainian and Moldovan grids with the European Continental Grid, which took place in March, in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine (see EUROPE 12912/5).
