05/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, announced on Tuesday 5 April an additional €53 million in aid to help the Republic of Moldova address the repercussions of the war in Ukraine. This support was announced at a ministerial conference in Berlin to launch the ‘Moldova Support Platform’. Initiated by Germany, France and Romania, it brings together Member States, G7 countries and international partners to mobilise immediate support for Moldova. More than 400,000 people fleeing Ukraine have crossed the Moldovan border since 24 February and almost 100,000 are still in Moldova. The event was also to discuss long-term cooperation with Moldova and how to reduce its dependence on Russia, including in terms of electricity production. (SP)
