05/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – European Commission spokesman Eric Mamer confirmed on Tuesday 5 April that the President of the EU institution, Ursula von der Leyen, and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, will travel to Kyiv “this week” to meet the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky. This mission was revealed on the evening of 4 April by the Slovenian Prime Minister, Janez Janša. It comes a few days after that of the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, (see EUROPE 12924/2) and will be held ahead of the donors’ conference scheduled for Saturday 9 April in Warsaw (see EUROPE 12920/8). For his part, European Council President Charles Michel is not ruling out a trip to Ukraine, but he will not travel with Mrs von der Leyen and Mr Borrell, an EU source said. (CG)
