23/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 22 March the chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties (LIBE), Juan Fernando López Aguilar (S&D, Spain), called on the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council to not release EU recovery plan money for Poland until Warsaw has an “independent judicial system”. Welcoming the country’s efforts to take in Ukrainian refugees, he recalled that the judicial situation remains worrying and that the ongoing reform of the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court does not yet address the objections raised by the EU Court of Justice. The President asked the EU to remain “strong” and “credible” on the issue of the Rule of law, despite the very tense geopolitical context, and to not yet approve the Polish plan.
