23/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 22 March, the European Commission opened a consultation period on updating the EU’s vehicle safety rules. This update is intended to take better account, in the long term, of the latest regulatory developments in terms of technical requirements for vehicles, systems or components. The European Commission also opened a consultation period on the same day on technical requirements for vehicles produced in unlimited and small series and for special purpose and fully automated vehicles. The focus will be on the parts of regulation 2018/858 concerning advanced emergency braking and collision warning for pedestrians and cyclists, blind spot information system, lane keeping assist, reversing detection, emergency stop signal and event data recorder, says the Commission.
