18/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – The EU signed a legally binding agreement with the Republic of Moldova on Thursday 17 March on border management cooperation between Moldovan border guards and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), the European Commission and the Council of the EU announced. The agreement was signed on behalf of the EU by Ylva Johansson, Commissioner for Home Affairs, and Philippe Léglise-Costa, the representative of the French Presidency of the EU Council, and on behalf of the Republic of Moldova by Daniela Morari, Ambassador of Moldova to the European Union. Frontex officers will be able to be deployed immediately to this small country, which has received 300,000 people since the start of the war in Ukraine and is still hosting 100,000. The European Parliament has yet to give its consent, but the agreement is of immediate provisional application, the European Commission said. (SP)
