08/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, travelled to Washington on Monday 7 February to co-chair the 9th meeting of the EU-US Energy Council alongside the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and the Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm. At the time of going to press, however, the conclusions of the meeting - of which EUROPE had previously detailed a draft version (see EUROPE 12884/11) - had not been published. Like the statements that followed the meeting (see EUROPE 12885/2), these conclusions underline the commitment of both sides to cooperate in ensuring the energy security of the EU, Ukraine and the Western Balkans and to support a “just” energy transition. They also state that the Council reaffirmed the need to phase out “inefficient” fossil fuel subsidies. See the conclusions: https://aeur.eu/f/8y (DG)
