08/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 8 February the chair of the European Parliament delegation to the EU-Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee, Vladimír Bilčík (EPP, Slovakia), and the European Parliament rapporteur on Montenegro, Tonino Picula (S&D, Croatia), called on Montenegro’s leaders to act swiftly to form a new government and elect a new speaker of the Parliament. The government was overthrown on 4 February by a vote of no confidence in parliament (43 votes out of 81 MPs). “Paving the way towards a stable parliamentary majority and moving Montenegro forward on the reform process is of essence; no more time should be lost”, the two MEPs warned in a joint statement. In their view, Montenegro needs a predictable and stable parliamentary majority and a pro-European government that will lead the country towards the EU.
