04/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – MEP Henrike Hahn (Greens/EFA, Germany) proposes to decouple the Social Climate Fund (SCF) from the entry into force of the ETS2 emissions trading scheme for the transport and construction sectors, in a press release published on Thursday 3 February outlining the content of her opinion for the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON). She believes that the Fund should enter into force by 2024 at the latest and be financed from the ETS1 and additional own resources. It must focus on structural investments to effectively combat energy poverty. She stresses the importance of taking a gendered approach to the implementation of the Fund. She also underlines the importance of taking better account of local and regional actors in order to better target the challenges on the ground. To read the opinion: https://aeur.eu/f/78 (PH)
