21/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 20 January, the European Commission announced a proposal to provide €2.8 million in financial assistance from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to 450 workers made redundant in the automotive sector in Catalonia. The aim is to help them find a new job by supporting them to acquire new skills or set up their own businesses, the Commission explained. The total estimated cost of these support measures is €3.3 million, of which 85% (€2.8 million) comes from the EGF. This is the Fund’s second application for Spain in a few months. Last October, the Commission proposed to support some 300 workers made redundant in the metal sector in the Basque region of Spain (see EUROPE 12829/31). (PH)
