04/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – NATO announced on Tuesday 4 January, a virtual meeting of Allied Foreign Ministers on Friday 7 January to discuss Russia’s military build-up on and around the Ukrainian border and broader European security issues. The meeting comes as High Representative of the Union Josep Borrell is in Ukraine (see EUROPE 12860/14). The latter had a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on 4 January to discuss the Ukrainian situation and the two draft treaties on security guarantees sent by Russia to the United States and the Alliance members. These issues will be at the centre of the US-Russia talks scheduled for 10 January, the NATO-Russia Council meeting on 12 January, and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on 13 January.
