EU has set priorities for its ‘Peace, Stability and Conflict Prevention’ programme with €871 million until 2027

The EU is launching its new €871 million programme to support peace, stability and conflict prevention, the European External Action Service announced on Wednesday 22 December.

The day before, the programming of the NDICI-Global Europe Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation financial instrument from the 2021-2027 EU budget (see EUROPE 12858/14) was finalised.

The actions funded by this thematic programme will focus on innovative approaches to combating disinformation, peace-building, local technological solutions to climate change, and addressing the root causes of terrorism and violent extremism.

In parallel, support for civil society organisations and multilateralism will continue, as well as the improvement of early warning and conflict analysis tools.

The EU must be able to deal with global instability and conflict. With this programme, we are strengthening our capacity to act and support our partners in conflict prevention, peace-building and crisis preparedness on a global scale, and to address emerging threats”, said High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

The European Peace Facility and Common Security and Defence Policy missions and operations will complement this programme. (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
