22/12/2021 (Agence Europe) – The EU is mobilising an additional €10 million in humanitarian aid for vulnerable people in Syria, who are suffering the worst drought in 70 years, the Commission announced on 22 December. This brings the total amount of humanitarian aid disbursed by the EU this year in Syria to €141 million. They will fund access to water and the rehabilitation of essential water infrastructure, access to sanitation and the provision of food. They will also help people throughout the winter (supply of heating fuel, blankets, winter clothes, repair of tents, etc.). More than five million people are losing access to water, food and electricity. In addition, some 4.5 million people are in urgent need of assistance to prepare for the winter. (AN)
