20/12/2021 (Agence Europe) – UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss took over the EU relations file, including the Northern Ireland Protocol, on 19 December, after the surprise resignation of Brexit Minister David Frost. The former UK Brexit negotiator, who was still Maroš Šefčovič’s interlocutor as of 17 December, disagrees with the direction Boris Johnson’s government is taking on Brexit. “Our positions on the substance of the discussions we are having with the UK, in particular on the protocol, do not change depending on who has the position of head of the negotiations”, the European Commission commented on Monday 20 December. “My team and I will continue to cooperate with the UK in the same constructive spirit on all important tasks ahead”, Šefčovič said.
