On Monday 6 December, members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) voted in favour of the agreement reached in the inter-institutional negotiations on data governance (DGA) (67 votes in favour, none against, seven abstentions). The EU Council and the European Parliament reached an agreement on the subject on 30 November (see EUROPE 12844/21).
In addition to capping public sector data re-use agreements and the establishment of a register in which to record them, the DGA also plans to develop data altruism entities. Entities active in this field could be recognised as such through a national register.
The text also establishes the creation of a European Innovation Council in relation to data. This will advise and assist the Commission in enhancing the interoperability of intermediation services.
The EU Council and the European Parliament have agreed on a deadline of 15 months from the entry into force of the Regulation for its application. (Original version in French by Thomas Mangin)
