Presidents of UfM Parliaments call for ambitious climate decisions

The Speakers of the Parliaments of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) stressed in a joint declaration on Saturday 4 December that it was imperative to take “ambitious, urgent and coordinated decision-making in the fight against global warming” so that the Mediterranean region can “avoid a dangerous future”.

The declaration, adopted at the end of the two-day meeting (see EUROPE 12845/15), calls for a coordinated effort by countries on both sides of the Mediterranean.

According to the S&D coordinator for the UfM Parliamentary Assembly, Margarida Marques (Portugal), the debate among the members of the Parliamentary Assembly highlighted the role of the Assembly in supporting partnerships to work on climate change, to promote greater resilience, a sustainable and inclusive economy, to better address migration and to promote peace and security in the region.
