The total value of EU agri-food trade for the period January-August 2021 reached €210.5 billion, up 5.1% on the same period last year, according to data provided by the European Commission on Friday 26 November.
EU agri-food exports rose by 7% to €127.5 billion, while imports increased by 2.3% (to €85 billion), giving an agri-food trade surplus of €44 billion for the first eight months of the year (+17%).
Positive figures were recorded in particular for exports to the United States (+€2 billion, or 15%), largely thanks to the strong performance of wine, spirits and liqueurs. In addition, exports to China increased by €812 million.
Despite signs of a strong rebound in exports to the UK, imports from the UK fell more than from any other country in the first eight months of 2021: -€2.6 billion, or -27%.
In terms of products, the value of exports of wines (+€2.5 billion, +31%) and spirits and liqueurs (+€1.3 billion, +32%) increased strongly.
Other increases in the value of exports were observed, for example for rapeseed and sunflower oils (+€611 million). More information: https://bit.ly/3cOExWP (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
