Industrial Strategy, industry representatives from Germany and France submit a series of proposals

France Industrie (FI) and the Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie (BDI) submitted to the European Commission, and to the cabinet of the Commissioner for the Internal Market in particular, on Wednesday 24 November, a joint document, obtained by EUROPE, listing a number of major proposals for strengthening European autonomy without lapsing into “protectionism” or “autarky”. The document focuses in particular on important projects of common European interest (IPCEI).

Thus, the two associations ask the European Commission to develop a ‘toolbox’ to strengthen the industrial strategy in general, but also to make the ecosystem approach fully operational, to improve dependency analyses and to accelerate the implementation of the IPCEI.

As such, they call for additional measures to support the IPCEI on batteries, hydrogen, and possibly one on low-carbon industry. Not surprisingly, they focus on the entire semiconductor ecosystem (from development to production). They suggest that the European Commission streamline the GAIA-X programme, the IPCEI on a European Cloud and the European Cloud Federation. Finally, they call for a strong consolidation of the health ecosystem and therefore also require an IPCEI.
